About how many refugees entered the U.S. in the 2016 fiscal year?

85,000

Only about 10 percent of the immigrants who are legally granted permanent residency each year in the U.S. are refugees. Of the approximately 85,000 refugees who entered the U.S. in the fiscal year 2016, nearly half were Muslim. Almost the same number of Christian refugees came to the country in that 12-month period. More than 12,000 of the Muslim refugees came from Syria, while the rest primarily emigrated from Somalia, Iraq, Burma (Myanmar) and Afghanistan. Source: Pew Research Center

A refugee, generally speaking, is a displaced person who has been forced to cross national boundaries and who cannot return home safely.
