Question: How were Presidents Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt related?

Answer: The two former presidents who led the country three decades apart were actually fifth cousins. Although the men were born 24 years apart, they both attended Harvard, and both attended Columbia Law School. Franklin D. Roosevelt followed his fifth cousin Theodore’s example when he entered politics and won election to the New York State Senate and later became the 32nd President. Teddy Roosevelt was more closely related to Franklin’s wife Eleanor, who was his niece. (She was the daughter of Teddy’s brother Elliot.) It was Eleanor’s Uncle Theodore who gave away her away at her wedding to Franklin Roosevelt on March 17, 1905.
