Answer: Montgomery is the capital city of the state of Alabama. The city is named after Richard Montgomery, a major general in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. General Montgomery led his troops in the Invasion of Canada and was killed in the 1775 Battle of Quebec. Cities named after him include Montgomery, Alabama, as well as Montgomery, Minnesota and Montgomery, Vermont. Two ships of the United States Navy have also been named after him. Although General Montgomery died in one of the first battles of the Revolutionary War, his legacy as a war hero lives on.
